Orders received by Italian textile machinery manufacturers rose 7% year on year in the third quarter of 2026, according to the Italian textile machinery manufacturers’ association, ACIMIT. Overseas orders increased 8%, driving the overall gain, while domestic orders fell 4%.
The split points to an uneven pattern of demand. International business supported the increase in orders, but the decline at home limits how broadly that growth can be interpreted. The figures indicate stronger overseas demand for Italian textile machinery rather than an improvement across both markets.

For manufacturers, the implications may differ according to their exposure to overseas and domestic customers. Those with a greater share of international business could benefit more directly from the increase in foreign orders. Companies more dependent on the Italian market may experience weaker conditions than the overall 7% rise suggests.
Order growth also needs to be distinguished from production, deliveries and revenue. Additional orders can support future activity, but their effect depends on delivery schedules and how those orders progress through manufacturers’ backlogs. The reported increase alone does not establish a corresponding rise in output or sales.
Subsequent ACIMIT order figures will help show whether overseas demand continues to support growth and whether domestic demand begins to recover. Continued divergence would suggest that the sector’s order performance remains dependent on international business; improvement in both markets would provide stronger evidence of a broader expansion.
